Join textile artist Karen O’Kane of Kokodesigns to learn the lovely art of silk painting and make your own hand-painted silk scarf or lampshade. Karen is a textile artist, hand painting silk with a cold resist technique and using the steamed silk to make a range of home furnishings including lampshades and a unique range of fashion garments and accessories. Karen’s designs are bold and vibrant and are inspired by her love of her natural environment, the unpredictability and texture of the medium and previous experience of glass art.

Pattern Writing for Knitwear Design

The ideal opportunity to begin or advance your pattern writing skills, join Edel MacBride for this exciting workshop. While the focus is on hand-knit, Edel will include tips for machine knit pattern writing. With simple basic steps this is an ideal class for the student advancing into a knit degree or for the hobbyist planning to develop further or even start their own collection. Taught by Edel MacBride in practical steps over three hours.

For all of you Crochet lovers why not join Hansel & Gretel for a fun workshop producing large colourful Mandala Hulahoops. Hansel & Gretel was born in 2003 and was a long life dream come true for Aine Clarke. A native of Northern Ireland and a longtime lover of all things arts & crafts, Aine started sewing and knitting garments when her children were born and many people admired her work, urging her to begin her business.     

Experience in basic crocheting is needed and all materials and refreshments supplied.

Two-Hour Glass Fusing Taster Workshop

When: 7pm-9pm 24/08/2017

Where: The Fashion & Textile Design Centre, Derry

Price: £30 (Advance booking required)

 

This short workshop is an introduction to the wonderful world of glass fusing. It will cover the basics of working with glass fusing. Participants will work with a selection of colourful glass pieces creating a hangingsuncatcher, a small glass plaque which can be framed and a pendant or pair of earrings. All materials are supplied and the base glass pieces will be pre-cut. An assortment of glass shapes, stringers, frit and glass confetti will be used to design your piece. The glass will be assembled in the workshop and following firing in my studio can be collected from Number19 Craft and Design within two weeks. 

Please wear closed toed shoes as you will be working with glass.

Tie-Dye Workshop

Do you love tie-dye and want to create your own tie-dye design that you can wear after? Join Rebecca Cregan for a fun-filled and colourful workshop in all things tie-dye! Plain vests, t-shirts and all materials required for dying will be provided on arrival, however, if you have a special garment that you would like to tie dye – bring that too! Cotton is the preferred material – however polyester/ cottons and other fabrics work.

Tie-dying can get messy, so wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting dye on!
